Tap Tap Fish – AbyssRium June Pirate Event (2018) Guide

This is a guide for Tap Tap Fish – AbyssRium, with only the June Pirate Event (2018) information. See the main guide for a more comprehensive set of information. Feel free to add any of my guides to your homescreen for easy access, and offline loading of guides you’ve used (on supported devices)!

This Event has ended.

Update 2018-06-03: This event/guide’s been so popular I had to pay to upgrade my server! As always contributing to my Patreon can help me make even more, higher-quality guides & articles, and it keeps the lights on of course!

I streamed the event earlier with my thoughts, and you can see a video guide instead below if you prefer:

Tap Tap Fish AbyssRium - Pirate Event All Hidden Fish & Kraken! (2018)

General Event Info

Events slowly rollout (every time, yes it sucks), so don’t panic if you don’t get it. Expect it by the end of the week after it first starts rolling out.

Tap the Painter’s Palette (next to the camera) to buy the 3 event theme items and wear them until all Hidden Fish are unlocked. The great majority of failure to get Hidden Fish turns out to be people who forgot to equip them. They are always required so they’re not “wasting” currency.

We never know when the events end until less than a week before they do, they’re usually at least 4 weeks long though.

Currency is Coins, currency from prior events will be preserved (but invisible) for later events, so feel free to save up.

Song of the Moon is still disabled, Hermit Crab to auto-generates some event currency in it’s place (~20k a day last event)

See here for how to use Nox Player to automatically collect event currency on a PC/Mac so you don’t have to destroy your fingers.

It can be beaten in a week with the candy earning strategy outlaid here! Thanks /u/farmerlesbian as always!

Pirate Hidden Fish

As always, buy and wear all the theme items before hunting for hidden (or normal!) fish in an event and don’t remove any until you’re done unlocking hidden fish. The most common error people make by far is having the wrong things equipped.

Big thanks to /r/AbyssRium’s members for info! Particularly thanks to /u/SGMcG, the first to find many of these!

  • Gold Key Seahorse
    •
    • 500 Coins
    • Activate Hermit Crab 10 times while wearing the  Boatswain costume
      • Best combined with the Barracuda unlock
  • Compass Sea Turtle
    • 750
    • Watch event ads 10 times
      • Most efficient to watch these after upgrading the Hermit Crab
  • Treasure Map Barracuda
    • 1,500
    • Obtain Coins from Treasurebag Jellyfish 200 times
      • Best combined with the Seahorse unlock
    • Easiest if you store everything but the jellyfish and have at least 2
  • Sea Chart Manta Ray
    • 5,000
    • Save 3 pictures of Admiral Megamouse with the event theme on
      • The pop up will say “share”, it’s wrong
  • Captain Edward Dumbo
    • 12,000 coins (for a *&^%?$#% dumbo?!)
    • Obtain 3 Pirate Clownfish, 3 Admiral Megamouse, 3 Pirate Crocodile
      • The pop up says “more than 3”, this is wrong as usual
  • Abyssal Kraken
    • 100,000
      • You can only buy one
    • Complete the Treasure Map quest below
      • This requires unlocking all above hidden fish, and the whale, and buying one of each (not the marmoset though; IAP fish are never required)
      • Then, it’ll appear at random (I got it within 5 minutes), take a picture to unlock it
        • You’ll know it when you see it, trust me. You don’t need to follow any specific fish or keep an eye on anything in particular, though an empty tank can’t hurt.
          • There is a bug (what a surprise) where the “visiting” kraken does not leave. Ignore it, it’s purely cosmetic and you still have to buy the kraken if you want to keep it after the event
  •

Pirate Event Premium Fish

As always, the premium fish are listed in the Shop > Gems tab, not the Event tab. They’re not required to unlock any other content, ever.

  • First Mate Marmoset
    • $10, IAP only
      • Like almost all paid fish, after buying the IAP you can purchase additional ones with vitality
    • Doubles Currency harvest

Treasure Map Quest (Kraken Unlock)

Note that every single step of this is buggy and there’s no 100% consistent way to be sure it works the first time. Be patient, try multiple times, and close and restart the app if it’s failed more than once. Also don’t attempt these out of order, and assume all 3 event costume items are required.

  • Obtain the Compass
    • Buy the Event Dye, then get the Hermit Crab
    • Tapping the Hermit Crab makes him dig, which occasionally gives Compass Pieces, there are 3
      • Digging is different from dancing. Tap repeatedly when the dance isn’t charged to make him dig instead.
      • If it doesn’t seem to work no matter what, close the app and reopen, this has gotten compass shards for people.
  • Obtain the Mysterious Map
    • Buy a Treasure Map Barracuda (quelle surprise…) and leave it in the tank for 10+ minutes
      • You may not need to focus on the Barracuda as previously believed
      • Then, a swarm of Barracuda will appear like the marlin. Take a picture of the gold one to get the Map
      • The gold one looks like this:
        AbyssRium Gold Barracuda
Thanks to Kiki in the comments for the perfect picture!

        • Take a picture of anything immediately, you can pan the frozen frame, tap the gold barracuda, then retake the photo and get the shot immediately.
      • Again, might have to try this a couple times (3 for me). If you’re sure it’s been over 10 minutes, cancel the camera mode and refocus to watch it swim another 10
      • This is extremely buggy as all Marlin unlocks are. Please help us inform the devs we absolutely loathe these things
  • Gather Money for the sail
    • Tap coins from every type of event fish
      • This should be pretty easy once every fish (including the whale, but not the Marmoset) is bought (store all but one of each)
        • They must all be in the tank, at least one of each, to unlock
        • If you’re having trouble hunting down the coin from a specific fish that swims wide from the Coralite, tap the Expand tab to let yourself zoom out/pan around to catch them
        • The amount may not be exactly one from each; it seems to take a while but does eventually unlock. Like the other 3 it’s likely buggy, and a restart may fix things in some cases

After completing all 3 tasks, the Abyssal Kraken becomes a visiting fish (a la marlin) and you can take a picture to unlock it a la the Marlin. Took under 5 minutes to appear for me. You’ll know it when you see it, trust me.

Hermit Crab

The Hermit Crab is the secret to making this event possible even without stored event candy, you could do the last event in a week with minimal work! We’ll see if this one is as generous.

The crab comes with the Pirate dye (200 coins), then you buy it in the Event tab and will not appear if it is not equipped.  It passively generates currency while the game is open after tapping 20 coin icons, up to 10 times per day.

Upgrading the crab also upgrades the amount of coins earned from ads (if you don’t get one of the countless glitches with ads, that is).

Tapping the crab will let it “dig”, with enough taps he’ll produce an item, including coins, Compass pieces, and small amounts of pearls. He can dig even while resting. It can get 1-10 coins, 10 pearls (very rare), 50 gems (rare). Most of these rewards are bugged and do not actually give you the item, particularly the pearls. This is even after a bugfix release.

It can be leveled, for a fairly small amount of currency each level (less than one “cast” worth per level), and requires buying a certain number of Event fish to reach certain levels. These goals should be met as soon as possible as the Hermit Crab is the easiest way to get event currency and you’re required to have the 30 fish it requires to unlock some of the other Event fish anyway.

At level 10 (max) it will generate 2000-2200 currency per  cast, for a total of 20,000 per day (10 casts per day). Each cast requires you to tap 20 currency from fish to “power it up” first.

Pirate Event Customization Items

These are in the Palette menu next to the Camera button as always. Buy them before playing the event as they’re cheap, fun, permanent unlocks, and almost always required for hidden fish.

  • Pirate Boatswain (Costume)
    • 1000 Currency
  • Pirate Island (Dye)
    • 200
    • Required for Hermit Crab
  • Carribean Sea (Theme)
    • 500
