MewBot Guide & Commands List | Pokecord Alternative with more features

MewBot Guide, Commands & Strategy

MewBot is a great Pokecord alternative, especially as Pokecord itself bit the dust in June. So, here’s how to play this great and decently feature-rich Discord pokemon bot including all commands, strategy information, spawning information and more!

Feel free to leave a comment if you have questions or information to share! I read all comments on my guide, just like I do on my YouTube.

Official MewBot updates:

Restore Missing MewBot Pokemon

  • ;restore (link to message from mewbot with ;info output containing the pokemon you want)
    • This feature was added to the game to help people (one by one…) restore missing pokemon. after yet another database loss. Most pokemon appear lost though I still had a few in my list.
    • This gif shows the process, or type ;restore to pop it up in discord.
    • You also need to use the command within the same channel as the ;info message

Adding MewBot to Discord

Top.gg has an invite link, just let the bot in and then you can use the ;start command to begin playing and ;help to see various help topics and commands.

Playing MewBot

Spamming doesn’t spawn pokemon! Only real, back and forth conversations with multiple people reliably spawn pokemon. Talk like a normal person in populated channels to spawn mons.

If you want to play MewBot you can play it in the official server, which is also the only place to get support for bugs etc. Please do not join my server just to play with bots, join the official server.

MewBot vs Pokecord Differences

Mewbot is a bit less reliable and (until it shut down) was less popular than Pokecord. Mewbot somewhat often goes down for up to a few hours, and at one point lost save data for players.

Mewbot spawns don’t work quite like Pokecord; you don’t need a command, just type the Pokemon’s name. New spawns do not override existing spawns (hallelujah!), but they do despawn after about 40 minutes. Mewbot edits the spawn post to show if a Pokemon is caught or despawned.

Mewbot has minigames like fishing, game corner, and even NPC battles. Fishing is a Hangman style guessing game and NPC battles are instant 1v1 fights with a random opponent (usually a Starter or Legendary Pokemon). These activities give items or money that can be used to buy items or pokemon in the market.

Pokemon level MUCH slower when just chatting in Mewbot. You could get a Pokemon from level 1 to 100 in Pokecord in about the time it takes a Pokemon to get from level 1 to 40 in Mewbot. NPC and regular duels between players give much better experience than chatting in Mewbot.

Mewbot’s battle system is much more in depth than Pokecord, but not quite on the par of say Smogon’s battle simulator. Status moves exist and work to some extent, but other features like critical hits don’t seem to work and I’ve seen a few status raising/lowering moves do the wrong effect.

How Pokemon Spawn In Mewbot

Pokemon spawn from mewbot, just like Pokecord, from normal, back and forth conversation between multiple people. Spamming random chat messages, chanting “spawn”, or just waiting with no one else chatting will not spawn Pokemon. If you join a discord with Mewbot planning to do one of the above, you are going to have a bad time and probably get kicked or get bored and leave as far too many people do.

People who actually chat normally and have conversations with real people—while keeping an eye on the spawn channel—are the people who catch the most Pokemon. Please don’t join our discord server, or any others except the official Mewbot server, if you’re just going to spam or not chat and hope you get Pokemon. Like Pokecord, Mewbot spawns are designed to encourage chatting. People who only check a server once a day will not catch any Pokemon.

MewBot Minigames

MewBot has activities (minigames) that all drain 1 energy bar to limit spamming/progress. You can store 10 energy bars max and they automatically recover 1 every 20 minutes.

Fishing

  • ;fish
    • Start the fishing minigame after buying a rod
  • ;shop rods
    • See the rods for sale, you need one to fish

To Fish you need a Rod, ;shop rods to check out the inventory. The cheapest rod is 5,000 credits, which seems like a lot but note 100% of Pokemon you catch fishing will have items like Mega Stones, Evolution items, etc. As far as I can tell, more expensive rods only matter for fishing experience, and as far as I can tell, fishing experience only matters for leaderboards.

Fishing is a basic Hangman style game where you get an incomplete Pokemon name with a random number of letters filled in and you must guess the correct name. There is a strange pool of what can spawn in fishing, and it’s unclear what “fishing level” does. Most non-legendary water type Pokemon seem to be able to spawn, including Pokemon that are never fished up in the official games. Certain Pokemon are far more common than others.

I highly recommend unlocking fishing as soon as you can, it is much cheaper to fish for evolution items and you get a lot of Pokemon in the process as well, and a fun minigame to boot. It’s like being able to force a spawn only you can catch. Please pay attention, people who try to spam.

NPC Duels

NPC Duels can be very spammy, so if you’re a server admin, you may wish to make a separate Duel channel.

  • ;npc duel
    • Starts a duel. The rest of the commands will be presented to you by the bot after starting a battle
    • Note that your Mewbot pokemon start with Tackle in every slot. Learn some moves before trying a battle.

NPCs can be dueled with ;npc duel.NPCs usually have Legendaries, Mega Evolved Pokemon, or fully evolved Starters.

NPCs seem to be scaled to your Pokemon’s level but won’t be below level 15 or so, so brand new low level Pokemon may need to be leveled up by chatting before they’re battle-ready. After that, NPC Duels are the fastest way to level up as you get a good amount of EXP and a small amount of credits for each win. Credits can be increased with some Redeem packs.

NPC duels like all Mewbot minigames use up Energy Bars. You can also Talk or Steal from NPCs though I do not fully understand these mechanics yet. Talking raises the friendship meter with a (fairly high) chance of lowering it instead. I am unsure what this does so far. Steal gives you a chance to steal money from them, and can only be used if you have 5000 credits to start with.

Voting is the fastest way to earn credits to start. Grinding NPC duels is pretty good once you have a reliable pokemon however, and missions are very hit or miss but worth checking daily.

Win (Almost) Every NPC Duel

Beat Up is extremely overpowered in Mewbot and always hits for very good damage (and can even gain type advantage and STAB unlike normally). A Weavile with Beat Up can OHKO almost every NPC duel in the game so long as the Weavile goes first. It should work similarly with anything fast and ideally Dark Type with high Attack that can learn Beat Up.

Pokemon EVs

Pokemon in MewBot have EVs, but they they’re added to your ;trainer page as generic EVs and manually distributed with the ;add evs command. These generic EVs are bought as part of ;packs that cost Redeems.

Alternately they can be bought from EV items from the shop. They’re the same EV items as always in pokemon. EV items give exactly 1 EV each for 1,000 credits each. You can reset all the EVs of your active pokemon with the EV Reset item in ;shop items.

  • ;add evs (number) (stat)
    • For example to add 100 EVs to Attack for your currently selected pokemon, enter ;add evs 100 attack
      • Like real pokemon, you’re limited to 252 EVs per stat, and 510 EVs total across all stats
  • ;shop vitamins
    • to see the store for EV items. They’re more expensive bought than by beating NPC duels
      • ;buy vitamin carbos 100 for example to buy 100 speed EVs.

Game Corner

  • ;slots <amount>
    • Play the minigame. Mewbot will manually prompt you for further input if you don’t put a number
  • ;buy coins <amount>
    • Buy X coins. A coin costs half a credit, so buy an even amount
  • ;cash out <amount>
    • Sell X coins, again for half a credit each

The Game Corner is a simple gambling minigame that requires “coins” separate from regular credits for no apparent reason other than “that’s how the games do it”. Coins have no value except to be cashed out back into Credits. You apparently gain Luck and get better outcomes the more you gamble, personally I have not bothered with it much.

MewBot Command List

Highly incomplete at the moment! Use ;help with mewbot in your server to see what I’m missing for now.

Pokemon Commands

Catching Pokemon

Just type a Pokemon’s name to catch them once spawned; no prefix is required.

Pokemon List Commands
  • ;pokemon
    • Displays a full list of your obtained Pokemon
  • ;p
    • An alias of Pokemon. Use ;p f as a shortcut for ;pokemon filter
  • ;info <number|latest>
    • Detailed information about your current pokemon
  • ;nickname <name>
    • Nicknames the currently selected pokemon
  • ;favs
    • View a list of your favorite pokemon
  • ;fav add <pokemon number>
    • Adds the listed pokemon to the Favorites list
  • ;fav remove <pokemon number>
    • Removes the listed pokemon from the Favorites list
  • ;pokedex national
    • Displays all Pokemon you’ve caught and a counter showing how many you have out of how many availible
    • ;pokedex unowned
      • Displays all the pokemon you don’t have
Filtering Commands

This is complicated enough I’ve just copied the ingame help for now.

Filtering help!
Pokemon
;filter Pokemon <options> show Pokemon in order of their name!
Market
;filter market <options> show Pokemon in order of their IVs
Options!

Available Options are – .name, .nickname, .nature, .type, .types, .level, .shiny, .iv, .ev, .page, .owned, .legendary, .pseudo, .ultra beast, .price, .item

Example: [Search for my Shiny Gyarados-mega and order by the IVs]

;filter pokemon .name gyarados-mega .iv descending .shiny

Example: [Search for all Pokemon Above level 50 and order by EVs]

;filter pokemon .level > 50 .ev d

Example: [Search for the Second page of the Worst IV Shiny Pokemon in the Market]

;filter market .page 2 .iv ascending .shiny

Example: [Search for my Market listings]

;filter market .owned
Example: [Search for all my shiny legendaries]

;f p .legendary .shiny

[Note: ] ;f p can be used instead of ;filter pokemon also, ;f m can be used instead of ;filter market

Breeding Commands

Pokemon require the right Egg Groups to breed and 90% of MewBot Pokemon are Male to make breeding more difficult. Due to breeding, Dittos are very valuable as they take half the difficulty out.

Breeding seems to finally work recently in Mewbot and will show you the odds of success for your given pair as a percentage. Higher catch rate and higher IV mons have lower odds of successfully breeding, but you can try as many times as you want.

  • ;breed <male number> <female number>
    • Attempts to breed the selected pokemon numbers together. Good luck finding a breeding pair, because the MewBot interface will not help you in any way shape or form.
    • This command has a 30 second cooldown unlike most others, to make breeding harder
    • You may get the message “These Two Pokemon are not breedable!” in error. Just ignore it and try again
Eggs

Eggs hatch after a couple thousand messages posted in channels Mewbot can read. You must ;select your egg or the messages don’t count! Thus, only one egg can be worked on at a time. Don’t forget to pick it up!

Use ;filter pokemon .name egg to find your Eggs in your Pokemon list to hold.

Battle & Move Commands

  • ;duel @user
    • Start 1 on 1 battle with the selected user, using only your selected pokemon. You’ll be prompted for further commands by the bot
  • ;battle @user
    • Start a full, 6 Pokemon battle with this user. Make sure your party is set up, see below
  • ;learn <slot number> <move name>
    • Learn the selected move in the selected slot number on your currently selected pokemon
      • Make sure your pokemon can actually learn the move with the below command
  • ;moveset
    • A list of learnable moves for your currently selected pokemon
  • ;use #
    • Use a move mid-battle, the number is the number of your pokemon’s move from 1-4. It’s shown on screen during battles.
Party Commands

Mewbot supports a full 6 party loadout unlike Pokecord. The Party is only used for Party duels, not one on one, and only your active pokemon gains XP from talking.

  • ;party
    • Displays your current Party
  • ;party add <slot number> <pokemon number>
    • Adds the selected pokemon to the selected slot
  • ;party remove<slot number>
    • Removes this Pokemon from the party

Form & Evolution Commands

  • ;buy (evolution stone name)
    • For 1,000 credits, your active pokemon instantly evolves if you purchase a relevant stone
  • ;buy evo stone
    • Special 10,000 credits stone that evolves ANY Pokemon. Use this if you’re  having trouble with a picky evolution or have a level 100 pokemon that should level up to evolve
  • ;form <form>
    • Transform to a different form for most basic form types. Cannot be used for Regional variants (Alola forms etc.)
  • ;deform
    • An unfortunately titled command to return to the default form. Presumably this returns your Fusion pokemon as well.
  • ;solarize <Solgaleo number>
    • Solarize your Necrozma (must be your active pokemon) with a Solgaleo (input the Pokemon number)
  • ;lunarize <Lunala number>
    • Lunarize your Necrozma (must be your active pokemon) with a Lunala (input the Pokemon number)
  • ;fuse black <Zekrom number>
    • Fuse your Kyurem (must be your active pokemon) with a Zekrom (input the Pokemon number)
  • ;fuse white <Reshiram number>
    • Fuse your Kyurem (must be your active pokemon) with a Reshiram (input the Pokemon number)
  • ;mega evolve <x/y>
    • Mega evolve your current Pokemon. Add X or Y if your Pokemon has X/Y forms to specify which.
      • You have you buy a relevant mega stone first, with ;shop mega

Admin & UI Commands

Administration, settings, and other miscellaneous features go here.

Bag Commands
  • ;bag
    • View your items
  • ;equip <item name>
    • Equip 1 <item name> onto your current pokemon. This is how you use held items for battle/evolution, just like the normal pokemon games.
  • ;unequip
    • Remove the current held item from your currently selected pokemon
Extra Commands
  • ;trainer
    • Displays your trainer card, with some basic stats about you, credits, Pokemon count etc
  • ;updates
    • See the latest updates to MewBot
  • ;silence or ;level up
    • Turns level up messages for you (not the server) off or on respectively
  • ;visible disable|enable
    • Disable or enable the public viewing of your trainer card
  • ;stats
    • See player stats including Energy Bars, Fishing Level, and Game Corner luck/coins
  • ;status
    • View uptime and other information for MewBot’s program
  • ;leaderboard Fishing|Pokemon|Credits|Redeems|Servers
    • View a leaderboard, input the type of leaderboard from the list after the ;leaderboard command.
Admin Commands

These will help you set up MewBot in a non-annoying way for your server’s needs; I strongly recommend checking them out as a server admin.

  • ;prefix
    • Change the bot’s command prefix, most useful if you have other discord bots that accept ; as a prefix. If you change this, remember all commands listed here assume ; as the prefix. Default is ;
  • ;channel disable/enable
    • Disables commands/level up messages in the current channel. Useful if you want to keep level up messages out of popular channels
  • ;redirect spawns #channel
    • Forces all spawns into the chosen channel name, where #channel is whatever existing channel you want Mewbot to post into. Note Mewbot still monitors all channels it has permission to view to post spawns, though in my experience chatting in the enabled channel appears much more effective at causing spawns.
  • ;redirect disable
    • Disable redirection of spawns
  • ;auto pin spawns #channel
    • Lets the bot auto pin all ‘rare’ spawns. Useful if your channel is really busy, or you’re really desperate to get the rares I guess. In my experience, spawns don’t get missed even without this setting though
  • ;auto delete spawns #channel
    • Delete spawns that happen in a certain channel, if you want to ‘clean up’. Not very effective as the catch command and congratulations message persist.
Mission Commands

Missions are a difficult daily task that grants 10,000 credits. There are two tasks that must BOTH be completed to get the reward. You don’t know what your mission is until you check it for the day. Everyone gets the same mission on a given day, but the missions do change day to day. The reward is NOT automatically claimed.

  • ;missions
    • See your daily mission. Sometimes the requirements are extremely high, such as requiring Redeems
    • Everyone gets the same mission the same day! You could pin the daily mission in your MewBot channel if you like
  • ;missions claim
    • Claim 10,000 credits if you completed your mission

Possible Mission requirements:

  • Catch Pokemon
  • Fish
  • Win Duels (NPC duels count)
  • Claim redeems

MewBot Trading & Market

Shop Commands
  • ;shop
    • View the different shops you can use Credits to buy from
  • ;shop <shop name>
    • Open the selected shop. Currently the shop names are:
      • forms
      • mega
      • items
      • trade items
      • battle items
      • stones
      • vitamins
      • rods
  • ;packs
    • View the list of premium packs, they will be sent in DMs. These packs have items like shiny buffs, daycare slots, nature capsules, etc.
    • Redeem points are earned by getting 10 Upvote Points, or donations. Without donating most of these are well out of reach except the basic pack (5 redeems)
  • redeem pack <number>
    • Buy a pack with redeem points
    • Pack effects stack, though there is a maximum of 50% on Shiny Chance and Honey buffs
  • ;vote
    • Get a link to vote for the bot, in order to claim the below reward. Ignore the “vote here and here”, only the first link even works, and it’s all you need to vote on
    • Rewards are finally claimed automatically!
  • ;claim
    • Turn 10 upvote points into 1 Redeem point for buying premium packages
Trading Commands
  • ;trade @user
    • Starts the Trade UI with the selected user @ mentioned. The commands will be listed by MewBot when trading starts. Act fast as there’s a timeout
    • Be careful to select the correct user EXACTLY in the case there’s more than one user with the same name in your discord channel
  • ;gift @user <credit amount>
    • Gives the listed amount of credits to a user directly
  • ;give @user <pokemon number>
    • Gives the listed Pokemon from your collection to a user directly
  • ;giveredeem @user <redeems amount>
    • Grant the listed number of Redeem points to the @ menitoned user directly
Market Commands

As far as I can tell the market is totally broken at the moment and cannot be used.

Mewbot has a Pokemon “trading” market like Pokecord and it functions basically the exact same. Bought pokemon do not count in the Pokedex (I think, I’ve never touched it).

Pokemon are bought with Credits; the main ways to get credits are Upvoting (1,500), daily missions (10,000), selling pokemon (varies), and NPC duels (~50).

  • ;filter market <options>
    • Searching the market works just like filtering your Pokemon list, just use “market” instead of “pokemon”
  • ;market add <pokemon number> <price>
    • List a Pokemon for the given price—search the market first to find the market price
  • ;market remove <pokemon id>
    • Removes lising <id> from the market. You need to enter the listing ID, not the number you initially listed
  • ;market buy <pokemon id>
    • Purchase this Pokemon, find a pokemon with the Market filters

    1. Anything F2P always limits you somehow. I don’t play very much anymore so I just only use energy if there’s a daily mission I can complete

  1. Market searching isn’t working. It’s searching out of my pokemon even though I’m using ;filter market.

    1. none of the market commands appear to work at all, knowing mewbot’s devs they may have broken or removed it or something, no idea

    1. They just changed it, but it shows it at the bottom of the pokemon list thing. it’s just next/back/start/end. Used to be super buggy reaction controls. I’ll update the guide with them

    1. u just do this:
      1) select the pokemon u want to equip the item on.
      2) type down ;equip
      3) ur pokemon will now be holding the particular item
      to unequip just type ;unequip

  2. hi, i’m having trouble helping my pokémon learn moves. i do the right commands yet i receive the same reply every time, your pokemon cannot learn that move. even if it’s a move that’s the same type as the pokemon. what should i do about this?

    1. Make sure it’s in the learnset with ;moveset, not all pokemon can learn all moves of their type ,just like the real games. Otherwise, there’s a bug where some pokemon just don’t have a learnset and only have tackle

    1. You can’t in a 1v1 which most battles are. IN a 6 member battle, I have no idea I’ve never even seen anyone try

  3. I am stuck at a mission where I have to hatch eggs in the mewbot . How do I get eggs and hatch them ?

    1. Breeding is the only way to get eggs, and I have literally never witnessed the breeding function working (I made over 100 attempts). I would just ignore the mission or ask the developers to make breeding suck less.

  4. how can I use a water stone in a pokemon to make it evolve, I already tried with ;use waterstone and other forms but nothing happens

    1. You have to buy the stone in the store with ;buy (stone). It’s instantly applied to the active pokemon

  5. How do I evolve Pokemon via friendship? I have a budew with 100+ hapiness, but doesn’t seem to change.

    1. If it’s like Pokecord, it may be something extremely stupid like Budew has to level up in a chat room called “#Day” but I’m not sure

    1. It’s in the guide, ;unequip to unequip an item. But if you caught a pokemon that says it had an item, the item just goes straight to the inventory

    1. Don’t know myself, never paid or voted that many times to get a redeem. It may just auto apply to the currently selected pokemon which is what rare candies do I believe, otherwise it’s probably an item used from inventory. Either way it’s definitely a 1 time use only

    1. It’s probably just instantly applied upon purchase, that’s how pokecord was. Don’t have it to test anymore

    1. Trades should auto-cancel so…I’m sure it’s already ended by the time I typed this out. Otherwise, you have to report bugs to the actual devs not to me. I just make a guide, 0 affiliation whatsoever.

  6. How do you evolve pokemon with a stone? I tried giving my Charjabug a thunder stone to hold, but that does nothing. Am I missing a command?

    1. Works just like the real games, you gotta use it not hold it. Remove the held item and just Use Thunderstone or something like that

    1. Probably just a bug/unimplimented by mewbot, I’d tell the mewbot team. I noticed Sirfetched could only learn Tackle, I Think new mons just aren’t finished yet

  7. Is there any hint options like pokecord to catch pokemon? Like giving a fill in the blank hint like _a_a_ _ y for manaphy.

    1. I don’t remember, it’s probably ;hint if it exists. I removed it from my server because 10 year olds kept joining

  8. One last question (hope not to bother), but do you get money from catching pokemon like you could in pokecord? if so what are the commands?

    1. No, the ways to get money are listed in the guide. The pokedex feature is about the only thing pokecord had mewbot didn’t

  9. Is there a market like pokecord where you can purchase specific pokemon? if so, what are the specific commands? ive been trying to find out for days and i havent found an answer yet

    1. There is, market section is added to the guide now–actually, all the commands are in now I believe

  10. I miss Pokecord’s relative level of quality already. NPC Duels and any other “React to a do a thing” commands just don’t work at all. Can’t tell if that’s a permissions issue or just an issue with the bot itself currently.
(Also the Pokemon Home renders are just… so ugly xV)

    1. Nothing to do with the actual code quality, Mewbot is simply completely overloaded at a server-level, I actually removed it from my server for a few days to just wait for things to settle down. No idea when it’ll be stable since they surely weren’t expecting pokecord to explode either.

Agreed about the pokemon home renders though, they’re hideous. It used to use the Dream World art which was lovely.
