Super Neptunia RPG Guide | Drops, Quests, & Strategy

Finally, a new Neptunia title has released; Super Neptunia RPG! This one’s halfway between a “side” game and a “main” game, having a higher budget and larger story focus than most of the side games, but still some major differences from most of the “main” games.

I’m a bit late on getting together a guide for this one (work’s been a huge pain!) so I’m putting up my framework and I’ll be improving it as I play! Major WIP. Super Neptunia RPG Quick Tips

There’s platforming, but you get jump upgrades later on! Don’t frustrate yourself trying to make tricky (and possibly impossible!) jumps early on. If it seems like you can’t get it, you probably can’t–yet. Treasures are often best left for later if it’s not obvious how to get it.

Similarly, quests aren’t always possible the second you unlock them; be patient and progress the story if there’s not an obvious way to do it. Several quests in the first area are impossible at first. As far as I can tell (and as usual for Neptunia), there isn’t much of any missable content so don’t stress.

The maps can be slightly confusing to navigate at first, but there’s ingame maps to all the dungeons to make it easy, just press Select to see them.

The game has more elements and status effects (and resistances) than the usual Neptunia game; it’s closer to Final Fantasy 8 in that regard. Try to cover each element with at least one attack in your formation sets (once you have a full party that is).

Speaking of Final Fantasy, items have learnable Abilities like Final Fantasy 9, so keeping a wide variety of gear to slowly learn abilities will be strategically valuable.

Only Neptune is playable as your lead character. Sorry.

Press Select/equivalent to see enemies’ resistances mid-battle, you don’t have to try blindly to see what works. Speed up battles with L2, but you still have to input attack commands manually or you just get beat up really fast!

The game isn’t very hard, but save and make use of the sweet fast travel the save points offer.

Muse Dash Guide: Anime Rhythm Game for Switch, PC & Mobile

Muse Dash just launched on Nintendo Switch and Steam! It’s a surprisingly great Rhythm game (that even I can enjoy!) so I thought I’d share some useful information about the game in a guide! As always, feel free to comment below to add any tips, ask any questions, or just share what you think of the game!

Note of course this is a rhythm game and doing well mostly depends on your own skill. I can’t really give hands-on rhythm tutorials, so this focuses mostly on the objective informational side of the game.

Muse Dash Version Differences

The versions of Muse Dash are slightly different, most notably the Mobile versions are a bit different from the PC and Switch versions.

  • Mobile versions have an option to manually trigger Fever. Oddly, the Switch version lacks this for now.
  • Switch version has separate Leaderboards
  • DLC varies by platform, same content, different distributions:
    • The Nintendo Switch version has no DLC and is sold as a single item
    • The PC Version is sold as a cheap base game with a single DLC unit of the current mobile DLC
    • The mobile version sells DLC piecemeal
  • Title Screen is different on Mobile and PC/Switch with unique art for each
  • Mobile versions include Cloud Save with Facebook, Google Play/iCloud, and XD account
    • The Steam version can import your score/progress from mobile; the Switch version cannot.
  • Mobile versions show X/100 progress on the level up bar, console versions only show a bar. XP per level is still the same.
DLC

The Switch version does not have DLC, all tracks are included in the base price.

The Steam version has a single DLC, which will include all future tracks in the single purchase price.

The Mobile version has piecemeal DLC or you can buy the same Season Pass as Steam, which gives all future packs for free.

I recommend getting the season pass if you like the game, it’s the best deal since you get future stuff free.

Which Version Is Best?

If you want to play on multiple platforms, Steam + Mobile is the best combo. Mobile is the native platform and lets you manually control Fever. If you already have it on Mobile and want to keep your progress but play with a controller, get Steam as Switch doesn’t have account import.

However the Switch version is the simplest, most complete way to get the game at once and offers nice control options, while still being portable and allowing touch and TV play. The only major downsides are the lack of manual fever (patch please!) and the lack of account connection. Switch version will get free DLC updates.

Shakedown: Hawaii Quickstart Guide

Shakedown: Hawaii launched this week on Nintendo Switch, PC, and Playstation! I really enjoy the game so I thought I’d publish a little mini-guide to how to get the most out of the game. Look for a little more fleshing out over the next few days.

  • More guidance to finish main story to get money early on
  • More Shakedown Scenarios (even more variety!)
  • Car Repossession (earn extra cash for your Subprime Auto locations)
  • Weapon Pawning (earn cash and clear out inventory)
  • Shop Icons added to the map
  • Expands some building interiors
  • Character upgrades can now be unequipped
  • Faster property and multipliers purchasing
  • Salary can now be increased quicker
  • Police chases improved
  • Horns/sirens added to vehicles

General Tips

Secret? Hold L+R to change characters…I never noticed.

Relax! Shakedown: Hawaii is one of the chillest games you’ll play and there’s nothing you can really do wrong to meaningfully screw yourself over. No permanent negative choices, no missable achievements, nadda.

The property management aspect takes a little time to get used to, but you can safely mess with it at your own speed early own and know that buying the ‘wrong’ property doesn’t matter long-term. Eventually, you want everything anyway.

Once you unlock the ability to Shakedown businesses, it’s not a bad idea to make a sweep of the map and clear most or all of them early on. It’s fun, it’s varied, there’s no extra prerequisites, and it’s free extra money every day.

There’s no need to rush the main story, but it does unlock a lot of stuff, and many of the early missions serve as a gradual tutorial. If you don’t know what to do, you should usually just go to the next mission.

Sidequests are often unlocked by buying a certain amount of properties, which is a major part of Shakedown: Hawaii, so don’t neglect it.

For some reason, only one of the 3 Veterinary Clinics actually lets you buy character upgrades (Kee Replacement for double jumps etc). It’s the one in the south-east of the map just below the river and just east of the weird bottomless pit things.

Combat

Restore your health with heart drops from enemies, buying snacks in various stores, or hopping in an Ambulance (seriously).

Some late Shakedowns have very large amounts of heavily armed enemies. It can be best to use a car as a weapon/armor in these cases; if the car is destroyed you are not instantly killed!

The cops matter a lot less than in Grand Theft Auto; you can easily get Cop Cloaking Devices by beating cops to shake them off, and half the time they don’t even respond if you’re driving down the sidewalk mowing down dozens of people. Which, by the way, is a great way to get early-game cash.

Gold Medals in challenges are usually pretty easy, but if you’re having trouble note that cars give a large amount in most challenges, but only if they’re destroyed. Don’t hit a car unless you’re going to destroy it. Keep moving as well, and take any easy shots you see.

Shopping

Cosmetics in Shakedown: Hawaii seem super expensive at first, but as you Shakedown properties, it’s less of a big deal. If possible, Shakedown a store and buy the property before buying anything with your pocket cash

You’ll eventually be able to pay yourself a salary, turning your “business” cash into pocket cash.

Most enterable businesses have weapons behind the counter you can take with impunity.

You don’t lose weapons when you die, so you should rarely need to buy any. Just spread out your weapon use and you’ll be given plenty during missions and Shakedowns.

Properties

The biggest addition over Retro City Rampage is the property/business management side of things. You can buy every building on the map (eventually), and there’s some (just some!) strategy into what to buy and when. The best way to find what to buy is to use the Business tab in the main menu rather than the map.

Generally, when you have the money to buy something you should buy it; money is best used on getting more money due to compounding returns. If at all possible, buy all of (this is easiest with low-count properties, like fast food joints; Subprime Auto is the easiest one to get very early.

Go for the “Premium” businesses (red color, icon is two buildings) in the For Sale tab; Natural Gouge Fine Foods under Grocery are particularly cheap yet high income.

Later on, once you’re earning at least 100,000+ per day, you might start looking into houses. Houses start out with terrible income and low-ish prices, but the point of houses is to simulate the real estate bubble. As you buy houses the purchase and rent prices will exponentially increase; slowly at first, but by the end each bought house significantly raises the earnings from the rest.

Note that once you unlock multipliers, they must be bought per-property. Buy multipliers for your highest-value properties and don’t forget to stack them after you unlock more! Multipliers are unlocked by progressing the main story Missions (M).

SteamWorld Quest Guide, Card List, and Walkthrough

SteamWorld Quest: The Hand of Gilgamech is the latest game in the SteamWorld series, and it’s out for Nintendo Switch today! It’s a Fantasy Card Battle RPG! I made this guide to help players find all the items, secrets, and handle all the bosses! It’s still slightly a work in progress (the game came out today) but I’ll keep updating it. SteamWorld Quest Quick Start Guide

General
  • You might think grinding wouldn’t matter much for a card battle game, only letting you get new cards. However, cards’ affects are based on your characters’ base stats, which grow significantly each level. If you’re stuck, don’t be afraid to grind, even one level can make a large difference.Copernica art
  • Don’t worry about missing things; you can replay chapters later on, getting the opportunity to fully revisit the story, treasure, and enemy formations even if you miss something.
  • Difficulty can be changed at any time; feel free to adjust it up or down at will!
  • There’s no real penalty for losing; you’re shot back to the last Gilgamech statue you healed at but you’ll have to try again of course.

General Tips/FAQ

  • First and foremost, this is not a “Guide Dang It” game! Don’t worry about missables (there are none) and you should be able to beat most of the game without a guide, so try your best and come back if you get stuck or need something specific
  • You don’t have to complete a level/survive to keep Collectibles. If you touch a Petal or give a Flower to the prince, it’s saved even if you leave the stage
  • Try clearing a path of enemies before taking the prince along when possible
  • For Pacifist challenges, jump over small enemies in the way and you’ll usually be able to avoid them. Sometimes you have to be patient to wait for opportune enemy placement.
  • For Speed challenges, making a clean run through a level without any KOs or major mistakes is usually enough. You’ll usually be good on these your second playthrough if you remember what to do.
  • Mushrooms cary your momentum from when you jump; press jump after moving in a direction to jump much farther in that direction. It’s much harder to change course mid-jump
  • Drop gingerly off ledges with mushrooms below; it’s pretty easy to take fall damage from some of the spots
  • In certain circumstances, you may need to select Retry from the menu to return to your last checkpoint if you’re permanently separated from the prince or otherwise mess up a puzzle. Don’t worry, it doesn’t restart the whole level, just the checkpoint
  • If you’re really, really stuck, you can skip stages after 10 minutes (but there’s a walkthrough below, so you shouldn’t get stuck that long…)

Here you’ll find video walkthroughs of every level in the game with all story cutscenes removed, so no spoilers! Click the links to skip right to the relevant level or use the embed to see the whole chapter. I’ve also noted which levels have achievements specific to them.

Each level has 5 Petals to collect and some have one Flower; see the Stage Select menu in the game to see which you’re missing from which stages. I recommend a full playthrough before going back to re-collect Petals, you can do it at any time so no rush, and it’s more fun if you try to figure out the puzzles at least once yourself.

Yume Nikki -Dream Diary- Guide

Yume Nikki Dream Diary is here, now with a Version 2.0 update that brings it closer to what most of us expected! Here I’ve documented a walkthrough of (most) of what you need to do, what effects do, the endings, and other information. This guide was written with the PC Version, but it should be accurate for everything in the Switch version too.

Feel free to comment to ask any questions or share info! I’ve provided links to some key terms in the Yume Nikki Wiki, feel free to get lost in the wiki as well, it’s quite enjoyable. I’m trying to link all the references to the original game, as they’re a rather significant amount of the enjoyment to be had in the game, so point out any I’ve missed as well!

For purpose of clarity, the full name Yume Nikki Dream Diary will be used when referring to this game, and Yume Nikki alone will be used to refer to the original game by Kikiyama.

Version 2.0

As a quick overview, 2.0 adds:

  • The Sewers, Block World, and Snow World, which are all connected
    • The Sewers is mostly a connection to existing worlds, plus a new puzzle/jellyfish is in it
    • Block World is accessed via The Sewers and is a puzzle blocking access to Snow World
    • Snow World has the Hat and Scarf effect, and access to Pink Sea/Poniko/Uboa
    • Most existing worlds are untouched beyond The Sewers connections
  • Two new effects, Hat and Scarf and Uboa Mask
    • Interact with Poniko’s desk while using the Lantern after triggering the Uboa Event (lights out) in Poniko’s room, then chase Uboa to get the Uboa Mask
    • Get Hat and Scarf in Snow World from Mafurako
  • Uboa’s Trap room added per above, it looks amazing
  • Four new subsections of The Wilderness added via a Lost Woods/looping maze puzzle including the Aztec Rave Monkey, some purple pylons, the hot springs room, and a lake you freeze to get some concept art
  • A new NES minigame added, Witch Adventure, referencing the Flight of the Witch event
    • This is found by finding the cat in The Sewers, then meeting it again at the roof of The Mall
  • The strangest addition, Madotsuki’s apartment now has a bathroom in the bottom corner, accessible only in the dream world. It has no apparent function.

All in all, 2.0 is a fantastic update that brings the game a fair bit more in line with the original and addresses several concerns of fans!

What is Yume Nikki -Dream Diary-?

As a heads-up in case you haven’t purchased the game yet (or haven’t started it), Yume Nikki is something closer to a “reimagining” of the original than typical remake or sequel.

Many are disappointed by what they find (as, well, was I) so it’s best to be aware of what you’re going in for. That said, if you’re a big enough fan of Yume Nikki, you’ll probably dive right in and play it like I did so I figured I would make a guide to help those who have already committed to it.

Dark Witch Story: COMBAT Guide, Walkthrough, and Card Info

Dark Witch Story: COMBAT is the Collectable Card Game/RPG bonus game that comes with Brave Dungeon’s Switch release. It’s a supplemental and not as balanced or deep as Brave Dungeon so it should be played after the main game, you’ll get the most out of it if you’re familiar with the regular Dark Witch enemies anyway.

I didn’t see any other guides at all and Dark Witch Story can be a little confusing so I thought I’d make a guide for it as well, since I already covered Brave Dungeon  and The Legend of Dark Witch 2. As always feel free to comment to ask questions, offer corrections, or just discuss the game.

Mighty Gunvolt Burst Guide, Boss Weaknesses, & DLC Characters

I don’t have a recommended boss order, though I find the Mine stage and boss particularly easy to start with, especially without an Element.

I’d hold off on Water Works or Radio Tower as starting stages due to frustrating bosses and lots of instant death traps in both.
